Thanks for your letter of the 7th instant and "The Times" cutting. Of course I remember your brother and hope he is flourishing.

As to the subject of your letter, Cewander Haslewood has already made representations to the Secretary of State on this question and the Governor of Hong Kong has been asked for a report on it.

Investigation was made in 1918 in connection with similar allegations and the then Governor of Hong Kong stated quite definitely that the law of the Colony does not recognise the existence of any servile status whatever.
